How To Heal Bruised Tailbone

You are quite lucky that you have escaped more serious injuries to the spine as these could paralyze you completely or it could even paralyze you from the point of injury onwards. There is no real condition called a bruised tailbone because bones do not bruise. Bruising is a process that happens in the skin and tissues so what you have probably done is bruised yourself visibly in the tailbone area. This is not something to be overly worried about as the problem is first of all self-limiting and can only be treated by allowing the body to heal itself. If you are facing some kind pain, then this can be worked upon with some soothing compresses and some medication that is herbal or allopathic.

Bruising is a visible sign of bleeding but unlike other wounds, it is not bleeding that leads to clotting. Clotting is a process that requires the skin to be broken to happen. This is because when some of the proteins that are responsible for the clotting process to occur need to be in contact with the skin protein collagen to start hardening and forming fibrous proteins that are a clot. Since the blunt injury to the tissue didn’t cause external bleeding, you have bled under the skin. This is also why the phenomenon is visible to the eye. This difference in the type of injury will not change the healing process and the tissue will heal and the blood will be reabsorbed.

One of the few problems that you can face is swelling from inflammation of a bruise site and also from the injury itself. Dealing with swelling is something that can be dealt with a cold compress. This simply requires that you take some ice cubes in a towel and place it on the bruise site. The immune system is very temperature dependent and below a certain temperature, the immune system will not maintain inflammation. Therefore, this is also a good way to deal with pain. Place the cold compress on the skin and wait for the skin to go numb. For more long lasting relief, it makes sense to take medication like acetylsalicylic acid or ibuprofen. You could also achieve the same effect by drinking ginger tea with a high concentration of ginger in it. Do not massage the area as you will aggravate the injury and a day’s rest is always a good thing.
