How Do I Unblock a Blocked Ear Due To Cold, Naturally?

I had cold and I hear popping sound and feel my ear is blocked, how can I improve it?

Blocked ears can be extremely bothersome when you have a bad cold. But, since the ears, nose, and throat are all internally connected, colds often affect the ears as well. Sometimes, it can be even painful; this happens when the ears get blocked and hearing is impaired. To further understand blocked ears and how they happen, let’s take a look at the anatomical structure of the human body. There is a canal that connects the front wall of the middle ear to the side wall of the nasal passageway; this is called the Eustachian tube. Generally, the Eustachian tube is closed, but it opens sometimes to let out small amounts of air in order to equalize the pressure in the middle ear and the atmosphere. At times, the Eustachian tube becomes blocked due to allergies, colds or sinusitis, sometimes ear clogged by sore throat also . Mucus and pus gets entrapped, causing swelling, congested ears, pain, and impaired hearing.

Clogged Ear Remedy

There are several methods which you can use to open blocked ear Eustachian tube. Often, some will work while others may not, so you can try out a few of these time-tested tricks and remedies to unblock your ear and relieve pain.

Yawn or swallow hard. This stimulates the muscles and opens the ears. You could also close your mouth, hold your nose, and gently blow as if you were blowing the air out of your ears. This can also help open a blocked ear. Chewing gum or opening your jaws wide can also be attempted. To soothe an aching ear, place a heating pad or warm cloth on it. If these tricks don’t work, you could try some of these home remedies. Take warm water mixed with common salt, and place a small quantity on your palm. Slowly inhale this water so that it goes into your nostril and then breathe through your mouth or better still hold your breath. Turn your head to the side where it is blocked. Do this a few times. You could, alternatively, heat one or two garlic cloves in sesame oil and put a few drops in each ear, allowing it to settle for some time. Then, hold a soft cloth over the ear, and lie down facing the ground. This will help clear your ears; you can do this several times to ensure that there is no residual wax or debris in your ear that can facilitate infection.

Of course, the best way to unblock ears caused by a cold is to fight the infection and treat the cold. To cure a cold, drink honey with hot water. You can also drink tea made with apple cider vinegar, lemon, cayenne and honey. Steam inhalation with few drops of eucalyptus oil is equally effective.
