What Is Yoga And How To Tone Up Body With Yoga
Yoga is a centuries-old spiritual science aimed at achieving optimum physical, mental and mental and emotional health. Even though Yoga is, in the true sense of the word, a spiritual science, intended for emancipating the individual soul from the miseries of worldly life, the practical and temporal benefits can’t be ruled out, either. This Yoga achieves by bringing about a perfect balance in our system, physical to start with. The practices help tone up not just the muscles, but internal organs as well, unlike any other physical fitness program.
To this extent, you would do well to practice Yoga physically, mentally and emotionally. This is because if you practice at all three levels, you will find yourself toning up faster than you would if you practiced Yoga only on the physical level. Understand that Yoga is a holistic science, pertaining to the art of living. So the Masters have given us asanas (yogic postures) to tone up our bodies. Pranayama (breathing exercises) improve our breathing and increase the supply of oxygen and nutrients to our system. We are taught certain Kriyas (cleansing techniques) that help detoxify our entire system. And, finally, we are taught Introspection and Meditation to help us cope with our vacillating emotions, stress and tension and calm our minds. Given that your body is (relatively) healthy and trouble free you should practice the following but only under the supervision and guidance of a trained and experienced yoga teacher:
Yoga Exercise: The best Yogic Exercise is the Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation). It exercises each and every part of your body and relaxes your mind as well.
Asanas (Postures): Do 5 in all these positions: standing, sitting, lying on your back, lying on your belly and in the Inverted position.
Pranayama (Breathing Exercises): Start with mild Kapalabhatti (Skull Cleansing) and a few rounds of Anuloma-Viloma (Alternate Nostril Breathing).
Kriyas (Cleansing Techniques): For a start do Vaman Dhauti and Jala Neti. Vaman Dhauti is the practice of vomiting a few glasses of pure water on an empty stomach first thing in the morning and Jala Net is Nasal cleansing with saline solution and a special Neti Pot.
Meditation: This too will call for special instruction from an experienced teacher or a meditation institute.
We are sure you will find the right personal help and wish you all the best. For whatever little ups and downs crop up in your practices, we are always here to help sort out problems.
