Slow Down The Ageing Process With Yoga

Expected Days To See Results of Yoga If Practiced Every Day

Yoga results would vary from individual to individual, depending upon a variety of factors including age, health condition, motivation and regularity of practice, diet, lifestyle and others. But this is nothing to be perturbed about. To answer the question more directly, for a healthy young individual in his or her twenties, seeing good results in posture in two to three weeks is not surprising. For people who’ve taken up the practice in their thirties and forties it might take a little longer. It, naturally, takes longer, logically speaking, the older we grow. Why, even people who’ve taken up the practice in their early youths find it not-so-easy to accomplish certain postures in their forties, fifties and sixties.

This is because all the myriad benefits of Yoga notwithstanding, you can’t beat the law of nature. Degeneration of cells, muscular atrophy and brittleness of the bones as we grow old is all part of the aging process. True, the regular, dedicated practice of Yoga does help slow down, retard and in rare instances even, apparently, reverse the aging process. And this again, is not a pipe dream. There are yogis living in society who, through diligent practice, dedication and by following a simple diet and lifestyle have managed to reach a level of competency where they are able to retain poses and their breaths for long periods of time. Subsequently, they have experienced immense benefits of yoga.

This is best understood when viewed in the light of the fact that yoga is a holistic science an integral practice involving the body, mind and emotions. There is a reason behind this. The more involved the practitioner is, mentally and emotionally, the faster the postural and other enhancements are seen and felt. This again may not be very easy at the start. But the attitude can be cultivated. Then there are those who begin with zest and enthusiasm, but start slipping midway through their practices. They may be regular and yet their passion seems to have ebbed and fallen. All humans are frail and weak to differing degrees in mind and heart.

But, all said and done, the more mentally and emotionally you are involved in your practices, the faster you are bound to witness results. Not, and in no way the least, the right diet matters. The lighter and more easily digestible your diet, the more supple and flexible your body. This is because our bodies feed on our food and take the shape and nature of our intake. Heavy and hard-to-digest foods, as experience tells, makes us sluggish and listless. A Sattvic (pure and simple), predominantly vegetarian diet on the other hand keeps you energetic, lively and spirited all day long. It’s just a matter of common sense. Practicing all aspects is what matters most in achieving optimum results fastest.
