Yoga is a holistic fitness program that aims to harmonize both body and mind. Yoga is particularly effective in combating stress. When you are under stress, the body responds with shallow breathing. This results in restricted oxygen supply to the vital organs in the body, setting off a variety of symptoms.

If you suffer from anxiety attacks and are prone to tension and stress, it is highly recommended to join a yoga class. Daily practice can help calm you control stress levels and maintain good health. When you feel the onset of an anxiety attack or are feeling particularly stressed, the following postures can help calm the body and mind and boost circulation and energy:

Cobra Pose – Lie face down on the floor. Place your hands on the floor with the palms facing downwards and close to your body; keep your feet together. As you inhale, lift your head and chest off the floor, tilt your head back and push the chest out. Hold the posture before returning to original position. Repeat.

Cobbler’s Pose – Sit on the floor with legs stretched out and inhale. As you exhale bring in your feet towards your body. Place the soles against each other and hold on to the toes. Push the knees as close to the floor as you can and hold the pose. Keep breathing through the routine.

Crocodile Pose – While lying on your stomach, cross your arms under your head and gently rest your head on them. As you inhale, push your stomach into the floor. Hold this position for ten counts and as you exhale, let the body relax. This posture is very effective and will help you relax immediately.

Child’s Pose – Kneel down with your buttocks resting on your heels. Bend forward until your head is as close to the floor as possible. Keep your arms relaxed, by your side; your palms should be on the floor, open and facing upwards (with the fingers pointing towards your feet). Hold this position for ten breaths before returning to the original upright position.
