The process of reaching a state in which one has mastered control over the body, mind, and spirit is said to be enlightenment. In this state, a person a free from all physical and emotional thought-forms, which serve as hindrances to the acquisition of enlightenment. Finding enlightenment allows a person to be free from all desire, inhibitions, and suffering; it is regarded as the path to inner peace and freedom. An unconditioned mind seeks out pleasure and happiness in the external sources, but such kind of happiness is transient. By achieving enlightenment, a person is able to be free and happy from within.

How To Attain Enlightenment: There are several different ways in which one can attain enlightenment. In fact, Buddhists believe that anyone can achieve enlightenment instantly given the right conditions and reasons. However, for most, the path to enlightenment is a long one. It requires practice, patience, and dedication. The most common means to attaining enlightenment include practicing meditation, reciting mantras, being compassionate towards other people, and fulfilling one’s duty (dharma). The basic aim of all these practices is to eliminate negative thoughts and feelings and train the mind to be at peace and in control.

Enlightenment Through Yoga And Meditation: Yoga and meditation have been used for several years as a means to attain enlightenment. By practicing Yoga, one is able to control the energies that flow through the body, thereby gain control over the mind. These energies are manipulated by means of various asanas and meditation. The basic premise of Yogic asanas and mediation is to allow the individual to become more aware of his or her own body. This awareness leads to the realization of how the mind and body are connected, which, in turn, helps in manipulating the mind.

If you choose to achieve enlightenment by practicing Yoga, it is important to focus on the movements that your body makes in the process of doing the asanas. This awareness, as mentioned earlier, is the key to attaining enlightenment. Thereafter, meditation helps in controlling the awareness and focusing the energy flow in our body in the right direction.

Shavasana or Corpse Pose: The most important pose in Yoga for the attainment of enlightenment is the Shavasana, or the corpse pose. In this pose, you are required to lie down on your back. Keep your hands to your side, palms facing up. The feet are should-width part, toes pointing slightly outward. The main emphasis of this pose is focus on breathing, while allowing your entire body to relax. As you remain in this pose, you realize that the body is not important; rather, it the soul that requires the breathed in air to rejuvenate itself. By practicing this pose regular, we are able to channelize our energy flow and, in time, attain enlightenment, or true inner freedom.
