Can Yoga Help To Reduce Pain Or Burning In The Eyes
When we discuss yoga it becomes quite apparent that it’s a combination of various exercises or poses, which help increase flexibility and mobility along with the various meditation techniques to calm your mind and soul. But many of us forget that Yoga has a solution for practically all problems in the body including our eyes.
Yoga has specific exercise for the eyes, which help reduce pain and strain to the eyes. I would like to share just a few exercises, which can be done on a daily basis and are very easy to follow. Firstly the most important point in all these exercises is the body posture. Sit in a cross legged position with a straight spine and with your eyes wide open. The first exercise deals with moving your eyes upwards and downwards as far as possible without straining them. Do these exercises 4 times and rest in between by blinking quickly.
The second exercise is a variation of the first exercise detailed above. The only difference here is that instead of moving your eyes from top to bottom, you have to move them from left to right. The important thing here is that you must set 2 imaginary points with your fingers or with any object. While moving your eyes make sure your level of movement does not cross these points as it will add strain to your eyes. Repeat this exercise at least 4 times with a quick break of blinking for several seconds.
The third exercise comprises of flaming a candle. First light a candle positioning it at your eye level. Stare at the flaming candle without blinking for as long as possible. After 30 seconds or so, close your eyes and begin rubbing the palms of your hand creating friction and heat. Now place the palms on your eyes. Make sure you cup your palms instead of placing them in a flat position. Repeat this eye exercise 3 to 4 times.
These are just some of the easy exercises, which can be done on a daily basis. There are still more advanced exercises. For beginners however, I would advise you to start with these exercises. Practicing them everyday will help in reducing your eye stress, and at the same time help in solving your problems of burning and irritation of the eyes. Practicing these yogic exercises diligently will pay results and it will soon become evident that yoga is truly a wholesome discipline, with merits for every avenue of your health.
