In today’s world, it is not just the adults who suffer from various health problems, due to the hectic lifestyles and schedules that they lead. Several parents tempt their children with waffles, pancakes, baked beans and peanut butter on toast too. While it is alright to add some amount of sugar to their bowl of cereal or glass of milk, breakfast foods like donuts, which are high in sugar should be avoided. Lunch and dinner should include a lot of vegetables, pulses, whole grains, with some amount of lean meat and fish too. Fruits are ideal for snacks in between. Children today are under tremendous pressure, to perform well in their studies, sports and extracurricular activities. Not all children handle the stress successfully and some of them may snap. Experts also recommend other techniques like Yoga and meditation, through which children can get rid of their stress.

However, it is more common to see younger children spend hours in front of the television or computer screen, instead of playing in the outdoors. Parents should set a routine for children, where they are allowed to watch TV or use their computer for about an hour a day, but they also need to spend time getting some exercise, by engaging in sports and other physical activities.

  • Ensuring that the child drinks a lot of water, to avoid getting dehydrated
  • Making the child dress appropriately, in material that is cool and soaks up the sweat immediately, to avoid infections
  • Teaching children to always play either with other children, or under adult supervision

It is important for all parents to realize that all the wellness, fitness, safety and health tips for children mentioned above can only help prevent the possibilities of any infections, injuries and accidents. These tips cannot be used as a substitute for parental supervision.
