...a considerable improvement in your focus and coordination. Therefore, many athletes and sports personalities go running everyday, not only for better health and fitness, but also to improve their performance on the sports field. In fact running can be termed as a sport on its own, in spite of the fact that there are no special skills required for it and anybody can practice running. In addition to that several sportsmen spend hours running on the sports field. Sports that require a lot of running are football (soccer), rugby, basketball, hockey, cricket, lawn tennis and baseball. There are different sports running programs for each sport:

Football running program

Most football players run around three times a week, to build their energy and stamina, as they are required to run continuously, from one end of the field to the other during a football match. The ideal running practice regime for a football player should include jogging for around 800 meters for the muscles to warm up, then a complete set of stretching exercises, followed by agility drills and then one mile of jogging and finally stretching exercises again. The speed of running should not remain constant throughout and should vary. This regime should not be practiced everyday; instead practicing it 4 or 5 times a week is perfect for an effective football running program or soccer running program.

Basketball running program

In basketball running is described more as spurts, dashes, change of direction and short sprints. Basketball players are usually advised to run, while training for their games. For a basketball player running is very important, to improve speed on the court. Players are usually asked to sprint for about five to ten yards and then glide into a walk. This exercise should be repeated, till at least two or three laps are complete. During the last one or two laps, the running style should be switched to change-of-direction. It is important for basketball players to perfect this style of running.

Baseball running program

In baseball running is essential, not just between the base but also for those who are fielding. Good running can help a team win a baseball match and therefore there are different baseball running programs that can be followed. The main type of running required in baseball is in short bursts. Running up the stairs is also recommended for baseball players.
