...that it is the primary root cause of a number of life threatening conditions such as heart disease, respiratory illness and high blood pressure. This condition is not very new and has been present throughout the world for ages. While previously it was seen only to affect the individual's aesthetic appeal, it is now known to e associated with a number of health problems as well. There are a number of factors that contribute to the weight gain such as hereditary, genetics and even other medical conditions. However, in most cases, the condition is a direct result of the over reliance on the fast foods that are such a convenient option and blend perfectly with our helter-skelter, fast paced lifestyles. However, these foods actually deprive our body of the required amounts of nutrients, vitamins and minerals. Not only that but they load it with significant quantities of empty calories that serve no other purpose than being converted into fat cells in the body and added to the fatty tissue.

Another aspect that influences the significant weight gain is the lack of any substantial physical exercise required to burn off all these additional fat cells. Pole walking and Nordic walking are new age walking techniques that are highly regarded for the amount of physical application required. Pole walking would therefore lead to a significant increase in the amount of calories burnt. Exerstriding is another increasingly popular walking technique and the aspects that they have in common include the fact that they can be performed with primarily the same kind of equipment. The design of the walker that is used is primarily designed to help exercise the upper body and core muscles as well as the leg muscles while simultaneously relieving some of the stress and impact on the lower body. The main difference between the two techniques is that the walking poles used for exerstriding do not have straps or even the demi-gloves that the Nordic walking poles feature. The exerstrider walking poles, however, do feature a large flared grip on the handles to help the individual balance properly.

Also known as ski walking, Nordic walking was primarily developed in central Europe while the concept of exerstriding was developed in the United States of America. Both concepts have been widely accepted and seen as very effective exercise programs that are easy to incorporate into ones schedule.
