One should also find a suitable place and terrain to walk which is not too populated and does not have too much of traffic. When you jut begin to exercise walking, one should ideally walk on an oval track which is not more than a quarter mile around. As you continue to exercise walking, you can gradually increase the distance and the pace as the body gets comfortable with this form of exercise. After each day of walking one should increase their walking time by a couple of minutes. However, one should not fret and if they are not able to cover more distance or walk longer than the earlier day they should let the body rest. An important thing to keep in mind while you exercise waking is that to allow the body to develop its own pace and rhythm of walking. One could exercise walking more effectively by practicing interval training wherein one should walk at an increased rate for a couple of minutes and slow down back to their normal pace of walking for two minutes. As one becomes more physically fit they should reduce their interval periods. There are several health benefits associated with taking up walking as a regular exercise and this includes the prevention of the development of type 2 diabetes. Walking is also known to strengthen the heart in the case of both men and women. Research has also revealed that walking tend sot significantly improve the cognitive functioning and is also beneficial in slowing down bone loss from the legs especially in the case of post menopausal women. Walking not only has many physical benefits but also tends to improve the emotional and social mindset of the individual. Walking is known to alleviate the symptoms of depression significantly thereby acting as a mood enhancer. One of the most important health benefits of walking is that it tends to reduce the risk of colon and breast cancer thereby reducing mortality and also improving the quality of life. The exercise of walking is also known to improve the overall physical functioning of the body and also prevents the development of disabilities in older persons.
