Our skin gets its color from a pigment called melanin which acts as a protection against various skin disorders. Products like olive oil help the skin fight diseases and protect it from UV rays.
Olive oil skin care. Olive oil is an excellent skin care product that makes the skin smooth and silky. Rich in vitamin E, it nourishes and moisturizes the skin. There are well-known international cosmetic brands which provide a wide range of skin care products with olive oil as its main ingredient.
Olive oil is used as a beauty product for the skin and hair. It is highly beneficial because of its intrinsic properties. It is rich in nutrients, antioxidants, vitamins and natural compounds. It has high proportions of polyphenols, avenastrol, phytosterols, and vitamins A and E, which help to neutralize free radicals, balance LDL oxidation, and repair cell membranes. Olive oil has a natural organic compound called squalene which is used in cosmetic products. Squalene aids in regulating sebum, the oil in the skin. Olive oil acts as a protective barrier against microorganisms, prevents skin damage caused due to environmental pollution, lubricates the skin, and delays effects of ageing. It makes the skin more elastic giving you soft and supple skin.
It is best to use extra virgin olive oil as it is rich in nutrient value. In comparison, refined olive oil is considered less valuable in terms of nutritional content. Olive oil has been used in making soaps right from the beginning. It was made with different additives. This technique has been perfected in modern times. The basic olive oil soap makes a low lathering, long lasting, and effective mild soap for the face and body.
As olive has moisturizing qualities, it is often used in the preparation of moisturizing lotions. To prepare a homemade lotion you can use half a cup of distilled water, half a cup of olive oil, a quarter cup of glycerin, four caplets of vitamin E, lechithin caplets, and 10 drops of lavender oil and blend all the ingredients in a shaker or mixer. Though it is unlike the lotion bought in the store, it serves the purpose of moisturizing the skin. You can even use a spray bottle to dispense the lotion.
