Back pain, especially
lower back pain
, has become an incredibly common ailment. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including bad posture, injuries and weak muscles. Surprisingly though, lower back pain is often just a manifestation of a mental problem. This could be stress, anxiety or fear. Think of a moment when you’re extremely stressed and you’ll find that your shoulders tense up. Similarly, when you’re afraid, you feel the need to urinate. In the same way,
lower back pain
may often be linked to the mind. What exactly is causing it is something that only introspection can tell you.
For

exercises are necessary to start strengthening the muscles around your lower back and abdomen. For instance, crunches and back extensions will help. But, you also need to calm the mind. Both of these aims can be achieved through yoga.
Yoga is one of the oldest systems of exercise in the world. Created thousands of years ago in ancient India, it is a holistic system that brings together the mind, body and breath. It restores balance in the body, and helps to calm the mind. As by product of this, yoga helps one to strengthen his body and get rid of aches and pains, and gives you

.
You can learn yoga from any instructor, or guru, near you. There are thousands of such instructors, but try to choose one who understands your problem and is sympathetic towards you. There are also many schools of yoga that you can choose, but it is better to choose a more traditional system of yoga like
Hatha yoga
or
Iyengar yoga
. While you can do many
yoga poses
, or asanas, keep in mind that there are some you should not do if you suffer from back pain. Some, you may have to perform very carefully. Your guru will guide you as to what you should not do.
There are some asanas that are especially beneficial for lower back pain. These are:
Corpse pose or Shavasana
Cat pose or Marjari asana
Wind releasing pose or Pavana Mukta Asana
Sage twist or Marichyasana
Palm Tree or Tadasana
Fish pose or matsyasana
Forward bends
As you proceed on your yogic journey, you will find that your spiritual connect between your mind and body is deepened, and you begin to see what causes physical problems. Yoga also contains strong aspects of breathing and meditation. You will find that your back pain eventually vanishes, and you will not need
chronic lower back pain treatment
.
