How To Heat Massage Oil? Benefits of Ayurvedic Yoga Massage

Submitted by Kevin Pederson on October 23, 2009

What is the best way to heat massage oil? Yoga, an ancient Indian science, is one of the oldest physical and mental health systems in the world. Another ancient Indian science is Ayurveda, which is India’s alternative to the West’s allopathic system. Massage too has been a traditional Indian art, and has been used for centuries to provide health and rejuvenation. In fact, massage is an integral part for anyone training in Indian martial arts, as the massage and massage oils used and known to help the body heal and grow faster. Ayurvedic Yoga Massage Today, yoga is popular all over the world, and people of all ages are benefiting from it. The art of yogic massage is also growing in popularity. In many places, the yoga massages that are offered are a blend of Yoga, Ayurveda, aromatherapy, and Thai Massage. In this kind of massage, the receiver is usually helped into a yoga asana, or posture. He or she is then softly massaged. The asana helps you to restore balance to your internal organs, while the massage helps you to release energy from places where it is blocked. Just as the body follows the mind, the mind follows the body too, and you will feel a sense of harmony, happiness and balance. Ayurvedic Sesame Oil And Yoga Massage During massages, a massage oil is always used. This is done because if a massage is done without oil, the friction may cause pain and discomfort. Ayurvedic medicine believes that this aggravates the Vata Dosha, which is one of the three elements that the body is made out of. Oil is also a nutrient for the skin, and nourishes the hair follicles that lie in the skin. When applied to sensitive points like the spine or the base of the skull, oil can relax the entire body and mind. Ayurvedic massage oils can be made from many ingredients, including sesame, coconut, or mustard. Some other Indian oils that are popular include Bhringraj Oil and Bhrami Oil. Some practitioners also use elements from western aromatherapy in their massages. How To Heat Massage Oil There are different ways to heat oils, and it varies depending on the oil you are using. For instance, a preparation for men includes four cups of sesame oil with two tablespoons of mustard oil. This is heated with half a teaspoon of asafoetida. After filtering, three spoons of turmeric is added, and cooked till it turns brown. Once prepared, this oil can be stored and cooled. Just before usage, massage oils must be heated only to a comfortable level. If you are unable to dip your hands in the oil, it’s too hot. When heating oils, always use a low flame as most oils are easily flammable. Never leave the oil unattended. A good way to heat oil is to put them in a metal container, and dip this container in hot water for a while.
