This fresh smelling and clear oil is known to sooth you at stressed times and restore calm. It is also known to improve circulation and cure bronchitis and cough. Women who have varicose veins, can use cypress oil for relief.
Properties of cypress oil:
Cypress oil has a spicy, woody and refreshing smell. Colorless and pale, the oil is watery in consistence. It is derived from the cypress tree, which is a perennial, conical-shaped tree that grows up to 28 meters in height. Cretans and Phoenicians use the wood of the tree to make houses and ships, while the Greeks used to make statues of their gods with it.
The
essential oil
of cypress is non-sensitizing, non-irritant and non-toxic, and should be avoided during pregnancy. Cypress essential oil is known to have several therapeutic properties. It is diuretic, deodorant, antispasmodic, antiseptic and astringent. It is also a respiratory tonic, has sedative properties, styptic, hepatic and haemostatic.
Blue cypress oil:
This is an Australian product that is derived from the wood of Callitris intratropica.
Uses of cypress oil:
It has a soothing and calming effect and can be good for people who are stressed-out and anxious. It also works like a vasoconstrictor on hemorrhoids and varicose veins.
Cypress oil is beneficial for those who experience heavy menstruation, nosebleeds and bleeding. It is also good for treating fluid retention, hemorrhages and bronchial cough.
This essential oil has antispasmodic properties, and can be used to treat influenza, emphysema, bronchitis, whooping cough, and asthma.
This oil is used to treat muscle cramps, rheumatic pain and pain in arthritis. It also regulates the menstrual cycle.
It is beneficial for the correct working of the respiratory tract, and can treat discharge of fluids by acting as a vasoconstrictor.
How is it used: Cypress oil is used in various ways.
Vaporizers and Burners:
Cypress oil is used in vaporizers to cure bronchitis and cough, as well as to sooth an anxious mind.
Blend in bath:
This oil is often blended with the bath oil to cure and heal menopausal problems, heavy menstruation, varicose veins, rheumatism, cramps, cellulite, arthritis and asthma.
Aromatherapy massage:
Cypress oil is mixed with a carrier oil or lotion for healing massages.
Cold compresses:
Cypress oil is made into a cold compress to heal nose bleeds.
Foot bath:
It can control perspiration when used in a foot bath because of its deodorant and astringent properties.
Blends:
Cypress oil can be blended with rosemary, sandalwood, pine, marjoram, juniper, lavender, sage and bergamot.
