Lavender Oil And Its Uses

Lavandula officinalis is the official name of lavender oil, and this essential oil is used in fragrant sachets used to lend its fragrance to clothes, shampoos, soaps, and in aromatic candles for the purpose of aromatherapy.

Origin: ‘Lavare’ is the Latin root word that gives lavender its name. Lavare means “to wash” and some believe that lavender got its name from the word because it has been used in baths. Lavender herb is also used to treat mood disturbances, depression, anxiety and insomnia. This herb is a native to the Mediterranean region as it grows well in stony and sunny places. But now it grows in the United States, Australia and southern Europe. It is a shrub with leafy green shoots and narrow leaves that can grow up to a height of 60 centimeters. Lavender essential oil is extracted from the fresh flowers.

Uses: Pure lavender oil is used in soaps, lotions, infusions, gels, and in aromatherapy oils.
