Aroma therapy history can be traced way back to the first century where the benefits of many aromatic oils were written by Dioscorides in his book. Also, after distillation was invented in the 11th century, distilled essential oils were used as medicines since that time. However, in 1907 a few European scientists and doctors were the ones who came up with the concept of aromatherapy and during World War II, a French surgeon was the first to make medicinal use of the essential oils and used them for treatment of the soldiers who were wounded. Aroma therapy candles are also said to have a number of benefits. However, when picking up candles from markets make sure to see "pure essential oils" on the label.
Aromatherapy scents that help particularly in relieving stress are lavender, chamomile, geranium and rose. On the other hand, to improve your concentration level you can use lemon, grapefruit, orange, lemongrass or bergamot scents. Vanilla or sandalwood fragrance can be used if you want to create a sensuous mood and you can try using peppermint, cinnamon or spearmint candles for getting the extra energy that you need. You might think that essential oils and fragrance oils are one and the same thing but that is not the case. Essential oils are genuine fragrances that are extracted from a plant where as fragrance oils contain chemicals that are not genuine and thus, do not result in the desired effect. You can apply the oil to your skin or inhale the fragrance. You need to remember that essential oils should never be applied on the skin in its concentrated form. Aromatherapy diffusers is another way through which you can spread the scent of the essential oil in your entire room which serves as an air freshener and this can be done through electric fans, candles or diffusion through tissues to name a few.
